This site archives and delivers near real-time environmental metrics directly from South-East Austin, Tx.

Station Features & Technology

  • Davis 6163 Wireless Vantage Pro2 Plus: Built with an Aspirated Radiation Shield, integrated UV, and Solar radiation sensors for highly accurate, professional meteorological logging.
  • Virtual Real-Time Streams: Powered by customized AJAX scripts designed to pull and cycle instantaneous live updates directly from the weather instruments in seconds.
  • Interactive Gizmo: To check out custom telemetry visualizers, click the Gizmo Name link on the navigation menu map.
  • The Home Page only displays values greater than zero. If you want to see all the values, click on the [More] link at the top of the panel on the Home Page.
  • Visual Data Staleness indicators on Ajax Gizmo: To track real-time refresh frames easily, specific layout components change colors dynamically over time:
    • Data updates showcase in Green for 3 seconds.
    • Transitions start at White for 2 minutes.
    • Adjusts to Yellow at 5 minutes.
    • Shifts to Blue at 10 minutes.
    • Concludes on Red if stalled.
    • Paging arrays execute a clean automatic document reload every 60 minutes to re-synchronize live metrics.

Tracked Meteorological Metrics & Rules

šŸ’Ø Wind & Barometer

  • Barometric Pressure: Dynamic tracking rates converted into automated textual trends: ā€œSteadyā€, ā€œSlowā€, or ā€œFastā€.
  • Beaufort Wind Scales: Converts raw velocities safely onto the standard scale: ā€œCalmā€, ā€œLt airā€, ā€œLt breezeā€, ā€œGntl breezeā€, ā€œMod breezeā€, ā€œFrsh breezeā€, ā€œStrng breezeā€, ā€œNear galeā€, ā€œGaleā€, ā€œStrong galeā€, ā€œStormā€, ā€œVlnt stormā€, ā€œHurricaneā€.
  • Wind Vector Compass: Tracks speeds and wind directions configured onto 16 distinct compass headings, guided visually by tiny blue navigation arrows highlighting source origins.

ā˜€ļø Thermal Indexes & UV

  • Body Comfort Index: Real-time calculated evaluation outputs checking for: Extreme Cold, Uncomfortably Cold, Cool, Warm, Uncomfortably Hot, or Extreme Hot.
  • Dew Point Thresholds: Segmented index tiers logging: Ok, Low, Slight, Caution, Extreme, and Danger, usually over 60 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Heat Stress: Calculated formula alerts mapped directly without separate labels, cycling through: Caution, Extreme Caution, Danger, or Extreme Danger.
  • Ultra Violet Exposure: Standardized UV indices measuring: None, Low, Medium, High, Very High, and Extreme.

🌧 Sky, Rain & Space

  • Rain Diagnostics: Computes instantaneous live rain intensities, 24-hour running logs, monthly accumulators, and yearly totals.
  • Cloud Base Altitude: Live calculated cloud elevations tracking shifting overhead trends over runtime.
  • Cloud & Sky States: Real-time observation filters capturing: Shallow, Patches, Low Drifting, Blowing, Showers, Thunderstorm, Freezing, Partial, Drizzle, Rain, Snow, Snow Grains, Ice Crystals, Ice Pellets, Hail, Small Hail/Snow, Unknown Precipitation, Mist, Fog, Smoke, Dust, Sand, Haze, Spray, Volcnc Ash, Sand Swirls, Squalls, Funnel Cloud, Tornado, Sand Storm, Dust Storm.
  • Lunar Chronology: Tracks the 8 standard Moon phases: New Moon, Waxing Crescent, First Quarter, Waxing Gibbous, Full Moon, Waning Gibbous, Last Quarter, and Waning Crescent.

šŸ—„ Analytics & Station Logs

  • Data Rich Dashboard: Roughly 350 calculated variables handled simultaneously in the stations' profile.
  • Robust Weather History: Comprehensive data structure processing historical highs and lows across daily, monthly, and yearly tracks.
  • Long-Term Calculators: Background processing scripts tracking current day data sets versus full operational installation records to identify climatic anomalies.
  • Visual Visualizers: Features responsive graphs, precision telemetry gauges, NOAA weather outlook integrations, and radar loops.
